The Heritage Railway Association has welcomed a decision to remove an amendment to the Energy Bill which would have seen an outright ban on domestic coal mining.
Railway fans have launched a £40,000 fundraising appeal to see a Victorian steam locomotive hauling passenger carriages for the first time in 75 years.
Two charities have received cheques from Govia Thameslink Railway for over £12,500 each, raised as part of an event marking the retirement of the Southern fleet of Class 313 trains.
