Reports that BR 7P No. 70000 Britannia has returned to main line service proved to be premature as work on the locomotive continues at Crewe before the 4-6-2 can be passed for main line duties.
As previously reported, after running in on the Severn Valley Railway the ‘Brit’ returned under its own steam with support coach, a trip that was treated as a light proving run, on October 19, a day later than planned due to paperwork, according to a Locomotive Services spokesman.
Following that, the locomotive was given a circular loaded test run to Chester, via Shrewsbury, Telford and Crewe on October 23.

Satisfied that the vibration problem has been solved, Britannia is now in Locomotive Services’ paint shop at Crewe, where it is understood that it will be turned out in BR lined green.
