Cumbria has seen a typical British summer with cloud and occasional rain, says Heritage Railway reader Jonathan Allen.

On 13 July 2019 in a rare patch of good light, former LMS Stanier “Jubilee” 45690 “Leander”, looking every inch the late 1950s and reunited with her original tender, powers around Armathwaite curve on the Settle – Carlisle line as she heads south with train 1Z87, the 14.12 Carlisle – Carnforth leg of the Euston bound  “Cumbrian Mountain Express”.
