Tornado builder and owner, ‘The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust’ has made three key senior appointments to boost its engineering and operations teams.
The trust, which is building Britain’s most powerful steam locomotive in Gresley P2 2-8-2 No. 2007 Prince of Wales, has installed Graham Nicholas, a past trustee and Quality & Certification advisor for the group, as professional head of engineering.
He will head the new Tornado engineering committee and will provide oversight and guidance on all the trust’s vehicle engineering activities to support the ongoing operation of No. 60163, in addition to the construction programme for Prince of Wales.

A professional railway engineer of over 30 years standing, Graham joined British Rail as an engineering management trainee in 1986.
He has latterly specialised in rail vehicle certification and approvals and is today regarded as one of the country’s leading experts in these processes, having rewritten and updated the RSSB industry standards in this area.
In 2014 he was elected as Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Trust volunteer of six years and deputy operations director Huw Parker has been appointed as a trustee and operations director. He will oversee the day-to-day operations of Tornado.
