A UNIQUE visit from a Swiss engine, along with an appearance by Welsh singing superstar Dame Shirley Bassey DBE boosted visitor numbers to the Snowdon Mountain Railway this season, the Llanberis-based line has said.
Brienz Rothorn Bahn No.2 travelled 900 miles to North Wales in September to meet up with its sister locomotives, leading to a substantial increase in visitors compared to last autumn.
In May, Dame Shirley became the fourth and final person to have a carriage named in her honour, following in the footsteps of Sir David Brailsford CBE, Sir Bryn Terfel CBE and Katherine Jenkins OBE.

The line has been visited by numerous film crews this year, filming the railway, the summit building and the mountain’s breathtaking scenery for a range of documentaries and even a TV advert for Aldi.
