Dennis was in the process of organising a farewell main line trip for his Hawksworth pannier when he died on August 18 at the age of 77.

The ‘Dennis Howells memorial train’ will depart from Drayton Green at 10.15am, picking up at West Ruislip at 11.30am and arriving at Princes Risborough at 12.30pm.

It will depart from Princes Risborough at 3.50pm, arriving at West Ruislip at 4.30pm and Drayton Green at 5.04pm, timings all confirmed by Network Rail.

The train will run empty between Princes Risborough and Chinnor for servicing. There will be a private charter operating using GWR prairie No. 5526, and so the heritage line cannot facilitate passengers at Chinnor that day, when a servicing pit will also be installed.

The train is being facilitated by West Coast Railways at no cost, assisted by London Transport Museum and the Chinnor & Princes Risborough and Mid-Norfolk railways, on a similar basis, and Network Rail and Chiltern Railways in the planning stage.
