CHARITY fundraiser Dennis Barnes has spoken of his “excitement” after finalising plans to become the first railtour operator to access the Chinnor branch via the main line platform at Princes Risborough and the preserved railway’s new link with the national network.
Charity Railtours will run a special on October 1 from the south coast to little-used parts of the network in the Midlands, using Hastings Diesels’
six-coach former Charing Cross to Hastings line diesel-electric multiple unit ‘Thumper’ No. 1001.
Running as ‘The Wolverton Wanderer’, it starts at Hastings, reaches London via Tonbridge, and travels onwards to Princes Risborough and then onto the preserved branch to Chinnor.
