It is not often that a railway books a visiting engine for a gala which turns out to be unavailable and even rarer for its replacement to be unavailable as well.

Two visitors were booked in the shape of 2MT 2-6-0 No. 78018 from the Great Central Railway and 4MT 2-6-4T No. 80136 from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Unfortunately the NYMR was unable to spare the 4MT tank and a replacement was found in No. 80104 from Swanage but it too could not be spared by its home railway. Fortunately it was third time lucky when another 2-6-4T was secured in the shape of No. 80072 from Llangollen.
