Stanier 4-6-2 No. 6201 Princess Elizabeth turned a wheel on the main line, albeit without con rods, on Thursday, February 22, when the big red engine was taken in tow by a West Coast diesel – destination Carnforth for a new beginning.
New beginning? Was it for a change of ownership, hinted at in some railway quarters?
The answer to that was a flat ‘no’ said Princess Elizabeth Locomotive Society chairman Clive Mojonnier.

The fact is that this latest move came in the aftermath of the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust decision to defer the start of overhauling Duchess of Sutherland as reported last month.
This in turn has delayed work on ‘Lizzie’ so in order to overcome the problem (of time), members of the trust chose to move the engine to Carnforth.
Following the 4-6-2’s arrival it will be inspected and a work programme agreed with a view of an early return to the main line.
