February 9 and 16 were landmark days for the Bahamas Locomotive Society, with its LMS Jubilee 4-6-0 No. 45596 Bahamas making a highly successful return to the main line 25 years on from the locomotive’s last run on the national network in the days of British Railways.
The two sell-out runs starting at Oxenhope on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway branch ran along the iconic Settle and Carlisle Railway. The locomotive performed well on both trips and delighted passengers and the huge crowds who had turned out to see the engine pass.

Keith Whitmore, BLS chairman, said: “We were delighted to see Bahamas performing well back on the main line, wowing the crowds and passengers telling us how much they enjoyed the day and how well turned out our locomotive was. It was so appropriate that our first run in over 25 years was in partnership with our friends on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway where we are now based.
