The main line in a variety of shapes and sizes will be making its presence felt at the Transport Auctions of London sale on February 23, headed by the smokebox numberplate from LSWR Class T9 No. 30705, a Dübs & Co of Glasgow product that entered traffic in January 1899 and was withdrawn by BR from Guildford (70C) 59 years later, in January 1958. Designed by Dugald Drummond, these 4-4-0s earned the nickname ‘greyhounds’ due to their speed and reliability.
Southern Railway station target signs Lewes and Beckenham Junction will also be going under the hammer, while from further west comes a BR(W) Newton Abbot station totem sign. There are also block instruments, single-line tokens, wagonplates, and an LBSCR carriage mirror.
London Underground items include maps, platform enamel signs and destination plates. Starting at 11am, the tenth sale to be held by the auction house, is at Croydon Park Hotel.
