No. 5619 is Severn Valley’s latest spring gala visitor

The Severn Valley Railway (SVR) has confirmed the latest visiting locomotive for its spring steam gala is GWR 0-6-2T No. 5619.

The third visiting locomotive for the March 15-17 gala, billed by the SVR as a Great Western branchline bonanza, joins Llangollen Railway-based pannier tank No. 6430 and Didcot Railway Centre-based ‘Large Prairie’ No. 4144.

Owned by the Telford Horsehay Steam Trust, No. 5619 has recently been operating at the Swindon & Cricklade Railway.

Running in South Wales for most of its life, No. 5619 adds to the distinct Welsh theme, with all but home-fleet engines No. 1450 and No. 1501 being based in Wales at some point in their working lives.

Exciting line-up

The fine selection of visiting locomotives will be supported by members of SVR’s resident fleet, including 0-6-0ST No. 813, 0-4-2T No. 1450, 0-6-0PT No. 1501, 2-8-0 No. 2857, 0-6-0PT No. 7714 and Manor 4-6-0 No. 7802 Bradley Manor.

Other attractions will include:

  • Nos. 1450 and 6430 operating two Autotrains;
  • Short goods trains;
  • Double-headers;
  • Local services and full-line trains; and
  • Beautiful rakes of 20th century carriages.
