West Coast Railways supremo David Smith has agreed to send recently restored Bulleid Merchant Navy Pacific No. 35018 British India Line to the Wensleydale Railway.
The Carnforth-based locomotive is to star in the heritage line’s 1940s weekends.
It is set to arrive with the railway’s main line connection today (Friday, July 20), and will head trains on July 21/22.

The Leyburn 1940s Weekend will feature the line’s Evacuee Train.
No. 35018 was built as 21C18 at Eastleigh Works in 1945, and was one of the first batch of 20 Merchant Navies.
It was withdrawn in 1964 having clocked up around 956,000 miles, and sent to Barry scrapyard.
No. 35018 was bought for preservation in 1979, but it was not until it was moved to Carnforth in 2011 that the loco was fully restored.
