CAMBRIAN Heritage Railways is set to be given a £120,000 grant from Oswestry Town Council to develop a tourist line to Weston.
Councillors have indicated support for the revivalists’ plan to run 1¼ miles from the former Cambrian Railways headquarters building at the town centre station in Oswald Road south to Weston, where a visitor centre would be developed next to the Stonehouse Brewery.
The railway claims the line would attract an extra 20,000 visitors a year to Oswestry and input an additional £1.28 million into the local economy. The railway claims the figure could be much higher, bearing in mind the close proximity of the station to the town centre.
