Class 20, 20066 last operated a passenger service on the mainline in 1993, and many enthusiasts will have fond memories of returning on a railtour from Worcester Open Day.
This will be the first visit to ELR of Class 26, 26007 since being outshopped in ‘trainload coal’ livery, as it appeared when working specially over the Settle-Carlisle line back in February 1990.
Class 57, 57003 was originally a Class 47. The former Brush Type 4 was a dedicated freight locomotive during it’s career with British Rail. A refurbished Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) engine and a re-conditioned alternator were fitted, to improve reliability and performance – hence the reclassification to Class 57.
An intensive all-diesel timetable spans all three days of the event.
Mike Kelly, Chairman of East Lancashire Railway, said: “The Summer Diesel Gala is a cherished tradition among our visitors.
“We’re excited to showcase these magnificent engines and create unforgettable memories together which are an absolute feast for the sights and sounds of these unique icons of diesel power!”
Tickets are available now. More information can be found via the East Lancashire Railway website, including ticket prices for adults, children and families.
