Visitors to the North Norfolk Railway later this year will have the opportunity to travel on special trains hauled by steam locomotive No 60163 Tornado.

Tornado, the first mainline steam locomotive built in the UK since 1960made headlines when it steamed for the first time in 2008. Since then, the engine has continued to impress, hauling Royal Trains and appearing on the big screen in Paddington 2 as well as on numerous television programmes including BBC Top Gear’s famous Race to The North.

Tornado is also the fastest steam engine to run since the 1960s, reaching 100mph on a test train in 2017, but will be running at a more sedate 25mph through the North Norfolk countryside. The engine spends most of its time hauling premier excursions on the main line, and this is one of the locomotive’s first appearances for 15 months.
