The Yorkshire Wolds Railway (YWR) is preparing to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by opening every day over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Also, on June 2, the Railway will host a Volunteer Taster day.
Martyn Jones, Operations Director at the YWR, said: “The taster day is really about showing people who want to get involved what they can expect as a volunteer at the YWR by speaking to existing volunteers from all departments. If you have an interest in anything from making cups of tea, to painting, or track laying to locomotive driving and everything in between, then we have a rewarding volunteering opportunity for you and the taster day will give a flavour of what it would be like.”

John Lidster, chairman of the YWR, said: “This is certainly a first for us. We usually open one day a week, and have done two before, but never four days in a row so it’s quite exciting really. Opening all four days will really give the public who have not been able to visit a great opportunity to do so, and we look forward to welcoming those visitors to Fimber Halt over the Jubilee.”
Whilst work continues on site in preparations of the Jubilee weekend, fundraising is taking place offsite at a variety of events.
Katy Bowser, Business Development Director, said: “Our next fundraising activity will be a Treasure Hunt on Sunday 12 June, starting from the Derwent Valley Light Railway at Murton Park near York with registration between 10 and 11. All the clues as you drive will have you finishing back at our very own Fimber Halt.
“It should take around 2-3 hours to complete and will be a good fun family day. The cost is £12 per car and there is a prize for the fastest, most accurate entry.”
Visitors to the site at Fimber Halt can enjoy a cab ride along the 1000ft of track, walk through the visitor centre, or catch up on the ongoing restoration work on the brake van and 2nd locomotive Patricia. Access to the visitor centre and car park at Fimber Halt is free and a cab ride is priced at £3.50 per person.
